"Why bother, if AI can already do it better?"

It's the question we hear most from young people, and it deserves a straight answer. Yes - AI can already do many tasks faster than any of us, and it will do more every year. But a task isn't a purpose. Someone still has to decide which problems are worth solving, for whom, and why - and then own the result. That someone can be you.

Here's the part the scary headlines leave out: the same tools mean one young person with a laptop can now build what used to take a whole team. An app, a small business, a research project, a channel, a tool for your town. The people who learn to work with AI - and keep growing their own judgment - become more capable, not less needed.

The next few years - and your plans right now

The world you'll graduate into will be different from the one your parents planned for, and choices about college, trades and training are being made now. A few questions worth asking of any path:

  • Will AI multiply me here, or replace the task I'd be paid for? Look for paths where AI is your tool - and be wary of work that is only the task itself.
  • Can I combine a field I care about with AI skills? Health, building, farming, teaching, design, energy, the trades - knowing a real field and how to use AI in it is a powerful mix.
  • Can I start building a portfolio now? Things you've made, and people you've helped, say more than a grade - and you don't have to wait for permission.
  • Does it keep my foundations strong? Math, writing, and asking good questions are what let you check whether an AI is right - and lead it.

We study how AI is changing jobs, from every side - what holds up, what doesn't, and where it's too early to tell. Jobs and the concerns we study ยท The software profession ยท Factory work

Start building this month

  • Make something small and real. A study tool, a game, a website for a club - an AI coding agent can help you build your first one in a weekend. AI coding agents
  • Solve a problem for someone near you. A local shop, a teacher, a grandparent. Tiny businesses start this way.
  • Run your own research project. Pick a question you care about and use AI to help you find sources - then check every one yourself.
  • Teach it. Show someone older how to use AI well. You'll learn it twice as deeply.

Office Hours โ†’ Every week our panel answers the top questions young people are asking - like a professor's open door. Or ask a panelist directly.

Everyday AI โ†’ Which free AI to try for what, with copy-paste prompts that make it your tutor, not your shortcut.

Your agency: habits that keep you in charge

  • Think with AI, not through it. Ask it to quiz you and challenge you, not to answer for you. Struggle is still how humans grow. Small AI, used well
  • Learn how AI works - and where it fails. Understanding beats fear. AI's evolution
  • Own your choices. Use AI for drafts and ideas; the decisions, and the credit, are yours.
  • Care about people. The work that matters most is the work that helps someone.

Your generation and the road to 2046

We track where the AI build-out is heading, step by step, out to 2046 - and we believe the destination worth working toward is abundance for everyone, with people more capable, not less needed. Your generation will do much of that building. The big problems - energy, health, climate, how we govern powerful technology - need you, in every country. The road to 2046 ยท Our vision

Tell us what worries you

Our panel reads every concern and turns the common ones into episodes and research - always about the worry, never about who sent it. We don't ask for your name, age, email or an account, and we don't store anything that identifies you. We never publish what you write word for word.

If you're struggling right now, please talk to someone you trust, or contact a local crisis line or emergency services. You matter more than any technology.
