Until this clears its bar, our panel says "not yet": it names the questions and what we're doing about them, but no confident verdicts. How we learn
Robots on the factory floor
Tesla Optimus
TeslaTesla's humanoid robot program.
- 2030 Austin TerraFab chip arrival speculative
- 2029 FSD commoditization speculative
- 2029 Optimus humanoid robot scaling speculative
Boston Dynamics Atlas
Humanoid robot being readied for car plants.
Figure
Humanoid robots piloted in auto plants.
Agility Digit
Humanoid robot working in warehouses and logistics.
Still learning about: Apptronik Apollo, Unions and contracts. A name earns its own card once our research holds enough on it (3 tracked milestones, or 3 independent sources in 60 days).
The questions our panel debates
Is a robot going to take my job - and when?
We separate pilots from production, demos from real shifts, and announced plans from robots actually working. Dates, not headlines.
Where are robots really working today?
Which plants, which tasks, how many units, how many hours - the measured version, updated as evidence arrives.
What do the contracts say?
Some agreements already cover automation, retraining and job security. We track what they promise and whether it holds.
What new jobs appear - and for whom?
Robot technicians, maintenance, programming. We look for evidence these roles go to the people already on the line, not just promises.
Is the work safer?
Robots can take the dangerous and repetitive jobs. We check injury data, not just the brochure.
Do factories come back?
Robots could make it worth building here again. Reshoring claims are tracked against actual plant openings.
How we cover it
We follow the companies building the robots, the unions representing the workers, and researchers on every side. Our Human Impact and Main Street modules carry the worker's view onto the panel; our Skeptic holds every robot claim to what's actually installed. Real workers' stories come only with their consent and their right to review.
